Our Story

Markations started out as a full-service marketing agency. We developed comprehensive marketing plans for our clients that included the strategic plan, brand messaging bank, and the execution of a full tactical plan. Early in our existence we shifted away from traditional marketing channels, and became focused on the digital marketing side of the business. And soon after that, we began to receive requests from other agencies to handle the development of their customers’ marketing plans behind the scenes as a ghost agency.

With our development background and expertise, this Ghost development work became the majority of our business and we moved away from executing full marketing plans for our customers.

Simultaneously, we began work as the digital marketing and development arm of a Community College in New Jersey. It is here that we developed our love for higher education, solving big problems with limited resources, and for creating scalable software that can help schools and companies achieve their goals.

At our core, we are marketers, problem solvers, and developers that have a passion for delivering efficiency and success through technology.


Adam Nichols


Adam is the co-founder and CEO of Markations. He is responsible for ensuring clientsatisfaction and guiding the company’s strategy and growth. With over 20 years of experience in project management, development, and marketing and 10 years of experience working in Higher Education, Adam brings a creative and process driven approach to each engagement.

Jenna Nichols

Co-Founder and Creative Director

Jenna is the co-founder and Creative Director of Markations. She has extensive experience conceptualizing and implementing designs and content for corporate identity, websites, email marketing campaigns, and digital advertising assets. With over 10 years of experience working in Higher Education, Jenna understands how to work with campus constituents to extract information and to help achieve a consistent message, tone, and focus for digital marketing assets and initiatives.
